About the artist

b. 2001, in Goa, India

Ian Pius Pereira, an experimental interdisciplinary artist, delves deeply into the body and the metaphysical nature of its encounters. In 2024, Pereira completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Art Practice at the Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design, and Technology. His oeuvre spans multiple artistic disciplines, each consolidating to form new dimensions that provoke contemplation and engage the psyche. Pereira's practice encompasses painting, sculpture, textile, performance, as well as dyeing and pigment making.

Pereira's work seeks to channel and engage, sparking curiosity and inviting his audience to discover or rediscover something familiar yet not fully understood. His creations often explore themes of body, gender, and contemporary culture, acknowledging the impact of unperceived conformity. At the core of Pereira's practice is his ability to use matter as a direct representation of its context, seamlessly integrating it with other contextually selected materials.

In 2023, Pereira collaborated with the Cascoland Collective and exhibited his work during the 2023 Kochi Biennale Collateral Event ‘Soil Assembly,’ where he showcased the relevance of traditional Indian dye practices to sustainable creative endeavors.
